Consent and the Law Around Sexual Matters

Consent and the Law Around Sexual Matters

This talk explores the legal, ethical and practical aspects of consent. It is facilitated by a team of criminal attorneys. Founding partners of Sumpter & Gonzalez, Corinne Sumpter, J.D., L.L.M, and David Gonzalez, J.D., have spoken to teenagers about their legal risks and rights for more than 20 years. During the seminar, parents learn the laws pertaining to consent and understand the complexities of these matters in a variety of situations, including explicit digital written consent but in-person changes of mind, alcohol and controlled substances, sexting and child pornography laws, and ages in the juvenile and criminal justice systems. This session includes real cases from teenagers and hypothetical scenarios to help you talk with your child about the legal issues that may arise in sexual relationships.
